Sponsored by Amanda McGinty – State Farm Insurance, the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce hosted its 2nd Annual Women’s Alliance Luncheon on September 21 where several awards were presented to honor women’s leadership and business success. The Trailblazer of the Year Award recognizes a woman business leader who has enhanced the visibility and importance of women. A Trailblazer is a forerunner who leads by example and has opened the pathways for other women to follow. She is a role model, a forerunner, and an accomplished professional. The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to honor Christman Short, Director of the City of Easley Parks & Recreation Department, as its Women’s Alliance 2023 Trailblazer of the Year. Serving as the City’s Parks & Recreation Director, Christman is responsible for managing 9 youth recreation programs, as well as 6 adult recreational programs. Each year, those programs serve a combined total of 3,000 youth & adults, along with hundreds of involved parents. Under her leadership, her department is also responsible for managing the maintenance of all recreation fields and facilities utilized by these 3,000 athletes. In addition, her department oversees the City’s network of 8 public parks and 3 community trails, as well as plans & executes community events for the benefit of our local citizens. And of course, as Department Head, she’s directly responsible for all day-to-day operations. As a community servant, Christman has served as a YMCA Mentor, a former Vice President of Easley Little League, a graduate of Leadership Pickens County, a Leadership Pickens County Board of Regents member and Chair, and is an active member of her church. She’s also a devoted wife and mother of two young children, where she successfully manages the balancing act between work, community, and family. Christman is recognized for leading with integrity, professionalism, and a willingness to serve. As a recreation director, she constantly & consistently serves as a living example of working hard, treating others with respect & empathy, being appreciative of those who are investing their time in you, working as a team, learning from your mistakes, and showing grace in both winning and losing.
