Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce Announces Formation of Liberty Business Council

The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the official formation of the Liberty Business Council (LBC), marking the Chamber’s first major expansion in nearly two decades and reinforcing its commitment to strategic growth across the Greater Easley area.

Over the past six to eight months, the Chamber’s Board of Directors has worked closely to identify new growth opportunities, both in the programs it offers and in the communities it serves. This planning process led to renewed focus on expanding engagement beyond Easley and into neighboring areas experiencing increased momentum.

Nearly 20 years ago, the Chamber recognized a similar opportunity in the Powdersville and Piedmont communities, which ultimately led to the creation of the Powdersville Business Council (PBC). Since its formation, the PBC has provided exceptional leadership, fostering meaningful growth and strong advocacy for businesses throughout the region.

Building on that successful model, recent months have brought a surge of engagement from Liberty-area businesses. A small group of new members quickly became active within the Chamber, sparking broader conversations about the future of the Liberty community; an area widely viewed as poised for significant growth.

These early discussions expanded to include additional community stakeholders, including members of Liberty’s existing Chamber of Commerce, whose longstanding dedication has played an important role in supporting local businesses. Combined with fresh energy from the newly elected city leadership, these collaborative efforts created the foundation for a new chapter of partnership.

After months of thoughtful planning and collaboration, the Chamber’s Board of Directors has officially approved the formation of the Liberty Business Council. The LBC will operate as a business council under the umbrella of the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce, similar in structure and purpose to the Powdersville Business Council.

The Liberty Business Council will take the place of the former Liberty Chamber of Commerce. The Business Council has already begun its work, holding initial meetings during which members adopted bylaws, elected officers, and started planning future programming and events designed to support and promote Liberty-area businesses.

The Chamber proudly recognizes the founding members of the Liberty Business Council Advisory Committee: Jan Peterson, Francine Robertshaw, Bo McDonald (Vice-Chairman), Carla Stone, Clay Counts (Chairman), Gerald Wilson, Jeromy Arnett, Zach Arms, and Elizabeth Nelson.

David “Davey” Hiott Honored as the 2026 Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award Recipient

As part of the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce’s 78th Annual Meeting & Awards Celebration on March 19, 2026, David “Davey” Hiott was honored with the 2026 Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award.

Sponsored by Duke Energy, the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award pays tribute to an individual who uses their time, talent, and compassion to positively affect the lives of others in their community or in the workplace. Recipients foster a culture of citizenship and service that acts as a catalyst for others to become involved in civic and social activities.

This year’s recipient of the Duke Citizenship awards reflects more than two decades of public service to the people of Pickens County and the State of South Carolina. Davey is a lifelong resident and business owner in Pickens County. He has represented his district in the South Carolina House since 2004. Throughout his tenure, he has earned a reputation as a collaborative leader focused on economic development, agriculture, education, and quality-of-life issues that directly affect local families and businesses. His steady presence in both Columbia and our community has made him a trusted advocate for the region’s priorities.

The Duke Energy Citizenship & Service Award specifically honors individuals who foster a culture of service and inspire others to become involved in civic life. Recipients are recognized for setting an example of integrity, stewardship, and community responsibility; values Davey has demonstrated through his legislative work, business leadership, and participation in local organizations. By bringing people together across sectors and consistently supporting community initiatives, he has helped shape a stronger community.

Among those awards, Adria Earwood was honored as a 2026 Young Professional of the Year, which honors an emerging leader who strives to meet the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishment, who devotes time and energy to their community, and who serves as a role model for other young leaders and professionals.

Adia Earwood is no stranger to our community, serving as a loan officer for Park National Bank. She helps countless families realize their dream of home ownership. Her service to her community speaks volumes. She served as one of the founders of our Young Professionals committee, a role she has served with distinction since 2019. She is beginning her second three-year term on our Powdersville Business Council, where she also serves as Treasurer.

She serves on the Dream Center Women's Advisory Board and is a member of the Junior League of Anderson. She is a graduate of our Leadership Pickens County program, and after graduation, she served for 3 years on the Leadership Pickens Board of Regents. If that’s not enough, she has served as a volunteer travel volleyball coach for her daughter’s team and is now in the middle of another season! Among those awards, Daniel Adams with Tri-County Technical College was honored as a 2026 Young Professional of the Year, which honors an emerging leader who strives to meet the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishment, who devotes time and energy to their community, and who serves as a role model for other young leaders and professionals.

Danie Adams is no stranger to service to the chamber and community, as he serves as the Easley Campus Director of Tri-County Technical College. His dedication to his position is reflected in nominations; his employers and those who know him laud his dedication to students and to the development of the Easley Campus. An active member of our Young Professionals group, he is an Army Veteran and a graduate of our Leadership Pickens County program. He has served on our Leadership Pickens County Board of Regents and is currently the Chair-Elect of that committee.

He was recently selected to participate in this year’s Leadership South Carolina class. He was selected as a member of our Easley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. And, if that wasn’t enough, when the board needed a secretary, he was quick to step up and serve in the role. Our Community Connector Award is a new award that recognizes an individual whose dedication and energy in promoting the Easley Chamber of Commerce strengthen the very fabric of our organization. This is someone who may not be able to leave the office and give time to serve on a committee or as an ambassador, because quite often, they are a one-person shop! The Open Book Project Honored as the 2026 Non-Profit of the Year

The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce hosted its 78th Annual Meeting & Awards Celebration on March 19, 2026, at The Loom Event & Wedding Venue. Sponsored by Truliant Federal Credit Union, the event honored several businesses and individuals for their leadership and community service.

Among those awards, The Open Book Project was honored as the 2026 Non-Profit of the Year, which recognizes an organization that has demonstrated a strong effort in successfully using its organizational mission and resources to improve the quality of life in Pickens County, along with working in close partnership with the business community to achieve the desired results.

The Open Book Project celebrated its ribbon-cutting and grand opening in February of 2024 and has since grown exponentially in its service to the community. They are a non-profit organization that was founded through a monthly book club. The Open Book Project is a nonprofit organization with a literacy-based initiative that was created as an effort to continue the important work of the Pickens County Literacy Association (PCLA). Samantha Jones discovered the Pickens Literacy Association (PCLA) had announced they were ceasing their work. She relayed this to her monthly book club, where their love of reading and a love of giving made them form a group which came to be known as The Open Book Project, which is now located at 213 E 1st. Avenue in downtown Easley.

This location incorporates fundraising initiatives for literacy needs in the Upstate communities surrounding Piedmont, Powdersville, Easley, Clemson, Anderson, Pickens, & Greenville with all types of literacy initiatives. The Upstate Literacy Learning & Tutoring Center also has an office inside the building to allow students to come in for help. They do used book sale events, house a used bookstore, sponsor book clubs, and host book donation sites throughout Anderson, Oconee, Greenville, and Pickens counties. In addition, they just recently sponsored their 8th annual St. Patrick’s Day Race to support literacy in the local area.

Suzanne Flaugher Honored as the 2025 Board Director of the Year and the 2025 Chamber Chairperson of the Year

As part of the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce’s 78th Annual Meeting & Awards Celebration on March 19, 2026, Suzanne Flaugher was honored as the 2025 Board Director of the Year and the 2025 Chamber Chairperson of the Year.

Each year, your Easley Chamber Board of Directors selects a Director of the Year. This honor recognizes a Board member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty...someone who leads by example…someone who has kept others on course and motivated.

For any organization’s success, many aspects require oversight and due diligence, but none is more important than the role of the chairman. This board member not only did the tour of duty as board chairman, but she also did it with a brand-new President and ensured a very smooth transition in chamber leadership. In addition, she served on our nominating committee and our Women’s Alliance. With a true servant’s heart, she leads by example with excellent meeting attendance, active participation in almost all our chamber events & programs, and she’s always willing to pitch in and help wherever and whenever needed.

Amanda McGinty Honored as the 2025 Powdersville Advisory Board Member of the Year

As part of the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce’s 78th Annual Meeting & Awards Celebration on March 19, 2026, Amanda McGinty was honored as the 2025 Powdersville Advisory Board Member of the Year.

The Easley Chamber of Commerce proudly facilitates the Powdersville Business Council, which is led by a group of nine Advisory Board members. This award honors a PBC Advisory Board member who leads by example and has kept others motivated & engaged in our Powdersville area.

This leader joined the Powdersville Advisory Board in January of 2023, and last year, as Chair-Elect, she was called upon mid-year to assume the chairmanship of the PBC when the Committee Chairman resigned to accept a job out of town.

Our nominee has previously been honored as the 2024 Small Business of the Year, which recognizes a small business with a special entrepreneurial spirit, a unique marketing approach, or a special focus on the customer that results in a successful business…all while making time to actively serve the community. And, in 2021, she was honored as our Young Professional of the Year, an award that recognizes the achievements of our leaders who are under 40, who are making a difference in our community.

Armed with exceptional sales production and relationship management skills, after working for only 18 months with a State Farm Insurance Agency in Greenville, Amanda McGinty was selected to have her own agency. This summer will mark her 7th business anniversary. During that short time, she has grown her office to seven team members who manage a customer base of approximately 2,000 households across SC, NC, and Georgia.

During the award nomination process, Amanda was recognized for always putting others’ needs before her own. Regarding her employees, she provides them with the resources needed to help them thrive and meet their professional goals. And from a customer service perspective, Amanda ensures customers are not only matched with the right products to best meet their individual needs, but that they also understand the details of their coverage. And she also has a special flair for making the insurance process interesting for her customers by constantly sharing fun messages or incentives.

At the beginning of last year, Amanda reluctantly stepped into the role of Chair-elect of the Powdersville Business Council. She was assured that she would have plenty of time to “learn the ropes” before stepping into the chairmanship. Well, about seven months in, Brian called and congratulated her on her new ascension to the committee chair due to the previous chairperson resigning to accept a job out of town. She did this within a few weeks of the Powdersville Business Council golf tournament, the largest event that is put on by the PBC.

Amanda didn’t hesitate; instead, she stepped up and provided the leadership and organization required to pull off one of the most successful golf tournaments in the organization’s history. She then continued to lead by working with the board to facilitate the community service project with MAMRE Missions, resulting in a donation of $3,000 in addition to volunteer service to the organization.

Amanda’s State Farm agency is community-driven and supports many local activities. Amanda’s office is a regular supporter of Teacher Appreciation Week for the Powdersville schools. Each Halloween, her office plans the Annual Powdersville Trunk or Treat, a free community event at Dolly Cooper Park, which engages over 50 local business partners to welcome over 1000 children, along with 2000 parents & grandparents.

Amanda is a graduate of Leadership Pickens County, current Chair of the Powdersville Business Council Advisory Board, and an active member at NewSpring Church, where she serves in the children’s ministry.

The Powdersville Business Council Supports Local Community through MAMRE Missions Partnership

The Powdersville Business Council is proud to announce its 2025 community project, MAMRE Missions, a local organization dedicated to serving those locally in need within Powdersville and the surrounding areas by providing access to fresh produce, meats, non-perishables, and more via a monthly Mobile Food Pantry/Community Table.

MAMRE Missions is a non-profit and currently holds its monthly Mobile Food Pantry/Community Table in the parking lot of Powdersville First Baptist in Easley, SC. In addition, during the summer months, MAMRE Missions supplies a bagged nutritious lunch and breakfast items to the doorsteps of students and their families suffering with food insecurity.

Because of the passion in MAMRE Missions and its impact, the Powdersville Business Council Advisory Board selected them as their project for the year. The advisory board worked diligently to show its support. Throughout the year, members of the Powdersville Business Council volunteered with MAMRE Missions, participating in various service projects and events.

In addition to their time and efforts, the council also purchased supplies to aid MAMRE Missions and made a cash donation to further support their initiatives. "MAMRE Missions is doing incredible work in our community, and we're honored to have been able to support their efforts," said Brian Swords, President of the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce.

Family of Retired Easley Fire Captain Barry Bridges Named 2025 Easley Christmas Parade Grand Marshal

Easley, SC – November 18, 2025 – The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that the family of retired Easley Fire Department Captain Barry Bridges has been selected as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Easley Christmas Parade. The honor was announced last week at the Easley Chamber of Commerce State of the County luncheon.

“Captain Bridges’ gave many years of dedicated service to the Easley community as a fireman” stated Dr. Brian Swords, Easley Chamber of Commerce President, but many never realized that Capt. Bridges also volunteered as Santa Claus for countless Easley Christmas parades and events. Not only do we recognize his selfless service to our City, we want to thank him for the many smiles he brought to the faces of children in Easley!

Captain Bridges passed away unexpectedly this past Spring. Prior to his passing, he served the Easley Fire Department with distinction for many years, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and residents alike. His leadership and commitment to protecting lives and property have left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire future generations of firefighters. Captain Bridges will be represented by his family during the parade.

The Easley Christmas Parade, a cherished tradition that brings thousands of spectators downtown each year, will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 6pm. The “Easley Christmas Parade of Lights” celebrates the spirit of community and togetherness—values that Captain Bridges exemplified throughout his career.

“We are thrilled to honor the Bridges family as our Grand Marshal,” said Swords. “Captain Bridges dedicated his life to serving Easley as a firefighter and as Santa, and this recognition is a small way to express our gratitude for his unwavering commitment.”

Residents and visitors are invited to join the celebration and line the streets of downtown Easley for an afternoon of festive floats, music, and holiday cheer.

Rebuild Upstate Celebrates Grand Opening of Warehouse Facility in Easley, South Carolina

On Thursday, October 09, 2025, Rebuild Upstate celebrated its Grand Opening with a Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Celebration.

The event was attended by founder Jake Beaty, Rebuild Staff, City of Easley Mayor Lisa Talbert, Clemson Mayor Robert Halfacre, community leaders, donors, and so many community supporters.

Over the last 20 years, Upstate Rebuild has repaired 1,700 homes, completed over 5,000 projects, and cumulated over 170,000 volunteer hours. To further this impact, the event highlights a significant milestone: this is their first fully owned and furnished warehouse facility that is fully equipped to store all the materials needed for construction, office space for staff, and training rooms. It’s centralized to better help the residents in need with the four counties they serve: Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, and Pickens County.

Their mission is to provide home repairs for low-income neighbors, preserving affordable housing, and fostering strong, sustainable communities. They offer a range of services, including home repairs, ramps, volunteer labor, and financial assistance.

The Woman of Impact Award recognizes the supporting excellence of a woman in business who excels in her support role for the company in which she works. Behind the scenes, she is dependable and organized. She serves as a steady and consistent force that keeps others on task, and her supporting role serves as inspiration and encouragement to others. The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to honor Louise Jackson, Director of Operations of the Pickens County Board of Disabilities & Special Needs, as its Women’s Alliance 2025 Woman of Impact.

For over two decades, Louise Jackson has been the quiet but powerful force at the heart of the Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs. She began her journey in 2004 as a Direct Support Staff, serving individuals with dedication and compassion. From those very first days, her commitment has been unwavering.

By 2005, she had already left her mark, creating the Material Management Department, which significantly improved efficiency and saved valuable resources for the agency. In 2016, she was named Director of Facility Services, where she oversaw everything from procurement and maintenance to contracts, grants, and financial operations. Today, she serves as our Director of Agency Operations, bringing that same steady leadership, broad expertise, and unwavering service to every corner of the organization.

What makes Louise so deserving of this honor is not just what she has accomplished- it is how she has done it. When others see a crisis, Louise sees a challenge to be met. She is the one who stays late to make sure staff are paid, the one who comes in on weekends to secure coverage for homes, the one who answers the call at 2 AM because she knows someone is counting on her. She never seeks the spotlight, but she ensures everyone else can shine.

Louise inspires by example. With humility, loyalty, and boundless dedication, she shows us that leadership is not about titles or recognition, it is about service. She has mentored staff into leadership roles, instilled a culture of doing the right thing for those we serve, and consistently lifted others up while shouldering the hardest work herself.

Her legacy is visible across the Pickens County Board of Disabilities, but even more importantly, it is felt in the stability, care, and hope she helps provide to the individuals and families in our community. Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Record Growth and Launches New Innovative Member Programs

The Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce a surge in membership and the rollout of new initiatives designed to support and educate our local business community. In the past few months alone, fifty new businesses have joined the Chamber, reflecting a growing confidence in the economic outlook of the greater Easley area.

“We’re seeing momentum across every business sector,” said Dr. Brian Swords, President of the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce. “Adding fifty members in a quarter underscores the value companies place on networking, advocacy, and professional development within our region.”

To build on this momentum, the Chamber has introduced two new flagship programs:

Manufacturers Alliance: A collaborative platform for local manufacturers to share best practices, access specialized training, and advocate collectively on issues impacting the production sector. Click here for the August 12 Luncheon.
The Chamber Academy: A dedicated educational arm offering workshops, certification programs, and guest lectures on topics ranging from digital marketing to financial management—open to all Chamber members at no additional cost.

Recognizing that evening time slots often work better for small-business operators balancing tight daytime schedules, the Chamber has also reinstated its popular Business After Hours networking events. These gatherings provide an informal setting for businesses to connect one-on-one, showcase their offerings, and spark new partnerships.

“Bringing back Business After Hours has been a top request from members,” added Swords. “It levels the playing field for smaller enterprises that can’t step away from the office during daytime hours.”

Another area where the chamber is seeing tremendous engagement is in their Young Professionals (under 40) group. “Our YP committee has put in a lot of work to engage this sector, and we’re seeing great results and a lot of excitement” said Swords.

The chamber has also added a part-time director of membership and engagement, which has helped ignite a surge in participation in chamber events. “We’re seeing participation increase in almost all of our events” said Swords. “This position has helped us connect with our new members and reconnect with many of our existing members.”

Beginning in late July, the Chamber will be reintroducing their orientation program, Chamber 101, where new members can meet with the staff and learn more about the resources available through their chamber membership. The chamber is extending an invitation to new members, as well as existing members that want to be more engaged, to attend one of the Chamber 101 sessions. Registration is free for chamber members. On Friday, June 13, Cindy Fox Miller & Associates hosted the Easley Chamber's Young Professionals morning networking event and provided a great time for attendees, food, and giveaways! Melting Trading Co. supported the event by providing their signature and delicious coffee.

Leadership Pickens County Graduates Class XXXIII

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, twenty-three local leaders graduated from Leadership Pickens County (LPC) Class XXXIII at Southern Wesleyan University’s Bryant Lodge. Established in 1991, Leadership Pickens County is sponsored by the chambers of commerce in Pickens County and provides a framework of experiences for local leaders to become more informed and actively involved in the decision-making processes of their community. LPC consists of an opening retreat followed by nine full-day sessions addressing areas in leadership skills, diversity, education, local & state government, healthcare, community service, economic development, and tourism/recreation.

In addition to the community service session, the class selects a community project to be completed before graduation day. LPC Class XXXIII raised $24,790 to build The Walkway to Wellness at Alabaster House in Easley. The project was selected and completed weeks before graduation day.

Artis Bufford (One Church), Austin Burton (Pickens Police Department), Jonathan Cauthen (Tri-County Technical College), Katie Corbin (County of Pickens), Dr. Antonia Counts (Off The Block Physical Therapy), Lauren Fox (School District of Pickens County), Bryant Gibson (Ealey Police Department), Jennifer Holcombe (Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs), Tim Johnson (Pickens County Career and Technology Center), Trad Julian (County of Pickens), James Krout (City of Easley Parks & Recreation), John Lamb (5 Point Church), James McCallister (Easley Combined Utilities), Kaley McJunkin (Clemson University Learning Institute), Dr. Kaitlyn Newman (Verity Primary Medicine and Lifestyle), Kevin Porter (Provenance Recruiting and Staffing), Jeff Scott (Haven Valley Custom Builders), Stephanie Sheriff (Fort Hill Natural Gas Authority), Sarah Shupert (The Dream Center of Pickens County), Jessica Varney (County of Pickens), and Nicole Zeist (United Way of Pickens County).
